As you all know, I'm a huge fan of developing novel ways to objectively measure dimensions of the mind, from perception and mental imagery to cognition and memory. Future Minds lab has done a lot of work in this area, going back to our original discovery of how we could use binocular rivalry to objectively measure the sensory strength of visual imagery in 2008. Since then, we've worked on intuition and hallucinations, developing objective and reliable ways to measure these phenomena in the lab, anytime, with anyone and can even measure imagery and aphantasia using the response of the pupil!
For this newsletter, I will review an exciting paper that reports an interesting new way to objectively measure motor imagery and indeed motor aphantasia using something called transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TMS for short.
